The Dutch State Railways (NS) 500 series consisted of 45 robust diesel-electric locomotives introduced from 1946. The first ten units, numbered 501 to 510, were delivered to the Netherlands shortly after the Second World War through the British Armys War Department. These reliable three-axle locomotives were primarily employed for shunting duties at major stations including Utrecht, Zwolle and Rotterdam Feijenoord.
Thanks to their dependable performance, the NS expanded the fleet with additional locomotives numbered 511 to 545. Initially finished in olive green, the locomotives were later repainted in yellow-grey during the 1970s. Today, four Rh 500 locomotives remain preserved in Dutch museums, highlighting their historical significance and enduring legacy in rail transport.
This detailed model faithfully captures the engineering and historical importance of the NS 500 series, making it an essential addition for enthusiasts of classic European diesel locomotives.
